Gallery A minor is pleased to announce the exhibition INTO THE VOID with works by Cecilie Berg Børge-Ask, opening Thursday the 4th of September. The exhibition consists of works on canvas and paper, in various sizes where Berg Børge-Ask continues to investigate the intuitive line.
For Berg Børge-Ask the exhibition’s title speaks about a state where time and space cease to exist. The void is a realm without limitations, and a place where spontaneity and intuition emerges in an unrestricted way. According to Berg Børge-Ask her work is created spontaneously within this state. Within the immediate and subjective her work manifests itself as expressive lines that create a resemblance to nature and topography. Her work in this exhibition clearly relate to the organic structures that are found in nature. Through her work Berg Børge-Ask combines the private and subjective with the outer and physical world.
The drawings in the collection Adjusting Child Lace express tenderness and vulnerability. Simultaneously they exhibit great force and movement, revealing something temporary and delicate, which one does not want to miss. In a captivating way the viewer is drawn to experience each drawing as if it were on its way to something else.
In the collection Moments Turning Berg Børge-Ask uses acrylic paint on unprimed canvas. The surface is airy without being empty; the lines are traces in the unpainted where the emptiness has the power of animating the lines it surrounds. The intuitive is transferred into the physical world, not necessarily to be understood. Along with the contrast between opaque and transparent strokes and the soft background colours, we are given a sense of observing organisms and elements in nature at close range. Out of an emptiness arises shapes, forms and movements that touch something instinctive within the viewer.
Cecilie Berg Børge-Ask (born 1979) lives and works in Oslo. She has studied at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London, and at Konstfack in Stockholm. Apart from her artistic career working from her studio in Oslo, she is also a graphic designer. Previously she has had exhibitions in Oslo, Stockholm and London.
