DISSONANT SERENITY features 20 new oil paintings from the talented artist An Doan Nguyen. Usually more technical and photographic in style, Nguyen's artworks appear more impressionist and abstract this time, evoking a more medative expression. Some of the elements in his paintings are more improvised, thus elements like colour, lights, shadows and objects change, creating a more dreamlike and almost surrealist demeanor.

Whether empty car parks, deserted streets or abandoned industrial spaces, the absense of people and other disturbing elements creates almost an apocalyptic mood, only contrasted by his choice of non-traditional colours of cool blues, light turquoise and vibrant magneta.

An Doan Nguyen (b. 1978, Phuc Long, Vietnam) holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Wimbledon School of Art in London and a degree in Art History from the University of Bergen, Norway. His work has been commissioned by several public collections, including the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam.
